Question: The program will not run
and I get messages about missing, outdated or wrong versions
of runtime dlls.
Answer: The Meta Maker Wizard requires VB6 Runtime Files. You may not
have these files present on your computer or they may be old
and require updating in order for the program to run.
Question: What are VB6 Runtime
Files?
Answer: The Meta Maker Wizard was written using Visual
Basic 6. In order to run this Windows program your computer
needs to have a few 'helper' or Runtime Files installed. Once
you've installed these files you should be able to run most
programs written in Visual Basic 6. If you try running a progam
without these Runtime Files you will probably get an error
and the progam will refuse to start. You may already have
these files if you have installed another Visual Basic 6 program
in the past. Windows XP users will have these Runtime Files by default.
Question: Why are VB6 Runtime
Files not included with The Meta Maker Wizard setup program?
Answer: Some programs written in Visual Basic 6 are
distributed with VB6 Runtime Files, some are not. If you already
have Visual Basic programs installed on your computer it is
very likely you'll already have VB6 Runtime Files installed.
As these Runtime Files are quite large (about 1.5Mb) I have
decided not to include them with The Meta Maker Wizard setup
program in order to keep the download size small. I am sure
you will appreciate this if you already have VB6 Runtime Files
installed. For those who haven't please download them separately
by clicking
here.
Question: How do I know if I
have the VB6 Runtime Files already?
Answer: If you are using Windows XP you should have VB6 Runtime Files already on your system by default. For other Windows versions the way to check if you already have these Runtime Files installed is to look for a particular
file on your computer. Open Windows Explorer and navigate
to the C:\Windows\System folder. Look for the file "msvbvm60.dll"
(make sure it has "60" in the name, not any other
number). If this file exists you already have the VB6 Runtime
Files installed. If the file DOES NOT exist you need to download
the VB6 Runtime Files by clicking
here. At the prompt select "Save this program to
disk" and press the OK button. Once the file has finished
downloading you need to install the Runtime Files by double-clicking
the file vbrun60.exe. The VB6 Runtime Files will automatically
be installed on your computer. You may be required to reboot
your computer to finish the installation. Alternatively visit this knowledge base article on the Microsoft Web site.
Question: When loading meta tags
I am getting the error message, "data not recognized
or corrupt".
Answer: When you save meta tags using The Meta Maker
Wizard the data you enter into the input boxes is saved as
text in a text file. This text is saved in a unique format
which the wizard understands. Modifying these text files outside
of the wizard may cause loading errors. Trying to load text
files into the wizard created by another program will also
cause loading errors. The advice is not to modify any files
created using the wizard outside of the program and only load
files into the wizard previously created by it. You may wish
to create a separate folder on your computer where you save
meta tags produced using The Meta Maker Wizard.
Question: When I get to the 'Code Formatting' option in the Wizard, what do I enter?
Answer: The code generated by the wizard has to be pasted into your Web page 'head' code to be of any use. If your Web page editor, Adobe Dreamweaver for example, produces XHTML compliant code then if you paste Meta Maker Wizard code of a different format into your Web page you will get validation errors when you check for XHTML compliance. To check the format of your Web page take a look at it's code and examine the very first line. Look for the 'DOCTYPE' declaration. It should read either HTML 4.01 Transitional, HTML 4.01 Strict, XHTML 1.0 Transitional, XHTML 1.0 Strict or XHTML 1.1. In the Wizard select the option from the 'Code Formatting' screen that matches the 'DOCTYPE' declaration of your Web page.
